Trade Republic Fees Explained (2026):
€1 order fee, free Sparplan, and what’s hidden

Updated September 2026 · Fees verified September 2026 against official pricing documents — see our methodology

The €1 is real: it is a flat settlement fee per trade, order commission itself is €0, and savings plans cost nothing to execute. The full cost picture also includes an execution price Trade Republic sets as your counterparty, FX built into that price, a 1% fee on repeat card top-ups, and a set of admin charges. This page puts every published line in one place.

The €1 Best Price default, the €2 Direct Price option, and free savings plans

€1 flat per trade (Best Price)

A €50 order and a €50,000 order carry the same €1 settlement fee under Best Price, the default. Order commission itself is €0. If an order fills in several parts on the same trading day, the €1 is charged once, not per fill. To choose the exchange yourself, Direct Price costs €2 per trade across 30 exchanges including Xetra, Euronext, NYSE and Nasdaq, with live order books shown free in the app.

Savings plans (Sparplan): no execution fee

Savings plan executions carry no fee on ETFs, stocks, ELTIFs and crypto. Each execution must be between €10 and €10,000. Plans run weekly, twice monthly, monthly or quarterly and execute on the 2nd, 9th, 16th or 23rd of the month during Xetra hours (9:00 to 17:30 CET). Crypto plans are only available in the 11 countries where Trade Republic offers crypto.

How the price is set: Trade Republic pools savings plan orders with other customers’ orders and places them at best. Where an instrument is bought in several parts at different prices, every customer is settled at one average price, and Trade Republic states that pooling can in individual cases be worse than an individual order. There are no partial executions: if your balance is short on the day, the plan does not execute.

Against DEGIRO the headline is the same: DEGIRO charges €1 per trade on its Core Selection products (€0 commission plus a €1 handling fee) and €3 on ETFs on other exchanges. Currency or external product and spread costs may apply. The difference is recurring investing: DEGIRO’s order execution policy (Dutch branch; order types are platform-wide) lists eight order types and two validity durations; none is a scheduled or recurring purchase.

Order types and fractional execution

What order controls you have depends on what you are trading and how the order is executed.

Limit orders and Direct Price

Limit orders can be set for one day or for the whole year. Direct Price orders, where you pick the exchange, support market, limit and stop orders.

On Best Price, the quotes shown in the app are indicative, and the trade is concluded against Trade Republic rather than on the exchange.

Where order controls are limited
  • Crypto: market orders only. Limit and stop orders are not possible.
  • Fractional trades: not available on limit orders.
  • Savings plans: no price or timing control. Orders are pooled, placed at best and settled at an average price on the execution date.
For a large one-off order, a limit order caps the price you pay. Savings plans execute during Xetra hours, 9:00 to 17:30 CET.

Execution spreads: what Trade Republic publishes

Trade Republic publishes no spread figure. Its pricing summary says other product fees, including spread and third-party costs, may apply, and its 2 July 2026 launch announcement describes the €1 as a settlement fee plus third-party costs and spreads.

What its execution policy does state: when Trade Republic trades with you as counterparty, it sets a price at least equal to market prices, drawing on reference markets, and you consent to execution outside a trading venue. For shares and ETFs it is a systematic internaliser (market identifier code TRBX), publishes firm quotes in its app during normal trading hours, and reports trades through the Wiener Börse publication arrangement.

Its own risk warning: off-venue trading has no supervision comparable to an exchange, and its price-setting has no comparable control. Trades at a price clearly off the market can be cancelled as mistrades.

To check the price before you trade, compare the aggregated order book with the single-exchange order books, both free in the app, and pay €2 for Direct Price when a specific exchange quotes better.

Execution model: Best Price and Direct Price (since July 2026)

Trade Republic announced its current execution model on 2 July 2026. EU rules (Regulation (EU) 2024/791) allowed member states to exempt brokers from the ban on payment for order flow only until 30 June 2026.

Best Price: the €1 default

Orders are executed against Trade Republic at the best price across all relevant exchanges, based on an aggregated order book, for any order size. Trade Republic is the single counterparty on these trades.

The payment-for-order-flow ban does not remove every third-party payment: Trade Republic’s customer agreement still lets it receive and keep payments from third parties for executing orders, with no claim for the client to have them passed on. It discloses them annually.

Direct Price: choose your own exchange for €2

For €2 per trade, regardless of order size, you choose from 30 exchanges including Xetra, Euronext, NYSE and Nasdaq, for market, limit and stop orders. The aggregated order book and single-exchange order books are shown free in the app.

The Web Terminal, launched the same day, adds charting, screeners, portfolio analytics and live data at no additional cost.

FX handling, cash interest, and protection mechanics

FX: three different treatments

Buying a non-euro asset: when Trade Republic trades with you as counterparty, currency conversion is part of how it sets the price. There is no separate line and no published size. DEGIRO, by contrast, publishes its AutoFX rate: 0.25%, included in the transaction price.

Foreign dividends and corporate-action proceeds: converted to euros at interbank rates plus a margin. The margins are fixed amounts per unit of currency, not percentages: USD 0.0014, GBP 0.0011, CHF 0.0014. The conversion time differs from the securities transaction time, and the rate used is shown on the settlement statement.

Card payments and foreign ATM withdrawals: €0 to convert.

Accumulating ETFs pay no distributions, so the dividend margin does not arise on them.
Cash interest: how it works

Trade Republic’s German site advertised 2.5% p.a. on unlimited cash, paid monthly, on 24 September 2026. Its Spanish site advertised 3.04% TAE on balances up to €50,000 for new clients on 21 September 2026. Both rates are variable, and Trade Republic says its rate is oriented to the European Central Bank rate. Check your own country’s Trade Republic page for the current rate.

Interest is not automatic: it applies after activation in the app. Balances blocked by open orders or pending card payments earn nothing.

Cash protection: client cash sits in pooled trust accounts at partner banks: Citibank Europe, Crédit Agricole CIB, Deutsche Bank, HSBC Continental Europe, J.P. Morgan, Natixis and SEB. Each bank’s own deposit guarantee scheme covers up to €100,000 per depositor per bank, and money you hold directly at the same bank counts toward that limit. Cash above the individual partner amount shown in the app is invested in qualifying money market funds, held on a separate custody account, and deposit guarantee does not apply to it. In Germany the partner amount can be adjusted monthly.

Banking features that interact with the fee structure

Some card features can offset trading costs; others add their own charges.

Saveback: 1% on card spending, with a cap

Trade Republic advertises 1% Saveback: eligible card spending is paid back into a savings plan. Under the German customer agreement, the benefit is capped at €15 a month and requires bi-weekly or monthly savings plans totalling at least €50 a month. €500 of eligible spending in a month returns €5, the cost of five €1 settlement fees.

Excluded: ATM and cash withdrawals, transfers and top-ups, gambling, investment purchases and several other categories. Trade Republic’s help centre states a 2% rate, capped at €30 a month, when spending exclusively with crypto.

Round up

Each card payment is rounded up to the next euro, always: a €4.60 payment becomes €5.00, and an exact €2.00 becomes €3.00. An optional multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x applies. The difference accumulates weekly and is invested on the 2nd, 9th, 16th or 23rd into one stock or ETF you choose, and it cannot be withdrawn before it is invested.

Transfer, admin and exit costs

Moving your portfolio out is free on Trade Republic’s side. What remains are third-party charges, a few exceptions, and a set of admin fees.

Portfolio transfer out: €0 plus third-party costs

Trade Republic’s price list prices outgoing securities transfers at €0, with third-party costs possibly added. ELTIFs are the exception: they cannot be transferred, so a transfer request sells them and credits the proceeds.

A change of depository requested by the customer can carry a fee; the amount is not in the published price list. On account closure, crypto must be sold or sent to your own wallet.

Admin fees and the country tie
  • Postal order placement, change or cancellation: €25
  • Additional custody or balance confirmation: €25 per copy
  • AGM registration (bearer shares): €10 per event
  • Corporate-action instruction: €1 standard, €5 by email, €10 for voluntary conversion or exercise
  • Registered-share entry (domestic, if selected): €2

Under the German customer agreement, moving out of the country the account was opened for is grounds for termination without notice, even into another country Trade Republic serves. Support runs through live chat or phone with human staff inside the app.

How Trade Republic compares

Headline fees don’t tell the whole story: FX, recurring-investment pricing and transfer costs all shift the real cost depending on how you invest.

Broker ETF order cost Savings plan FX on non-euro buys Transfer out
Trade Republic €1 (Best Price) / €2 (Direct Price) Free, €10 to €10,000 per execution Built into the price; size not published €0 + third-party costs
DEGIRO €1 Core Selection (€0 commission + €1 handling); €3 other exchanges None listed in its order execution policy (Dutch branch document) 0.25% AutoFX, in the transaction price €20 per position + external costs (Germany: free)
Trading 212 €0 commission Free (AutoInvest) 0.15% No Trading 212 fee; not available to Germany residents
Interactive Brokers (Xetra) €3 minimum (Fixed); €1.25 minimum + exchange fees (Tiered) Recurring Investments; IBKR states only fractional-eligible ETFs qualify and commission applies 0.03% automatic; spot order 0.002% (USD 2 minimum) No European transfer-out fee published
Scalable Capital €1.99 per order on FREE and PRIME+ (Xetra and gettex, from 1 September 2026) Free (crypto ETPs carry a spread surcharge) Markup applies; size not published €0 + third-party costs

Fees verified September 2026 against each broker’s own price list, fee schedule or pricing page — see our methodology. DEGIRO: Currency or external product and spread costs may apply.

Trade Republic is most competitive for savings plan investors and for larger manual orders, where a flat €1 undercuts percentage or minimum-fee pricing. Investors who want a published FX rate on non-euro purchases get one at DEGIRO, Interactive Brokers or Trading 212; Trade Republic does not publish one.

Tax handling depends on your country

Germany: Trade Republic withholds tax on investment income, and you can set a tax-free allowance order (Freistellungsauftrag) of up to €1,000 in the app. Tax already withheld is refunded only if the order is set within the same calendar year. The annual tax certificate is free.

Spain: customers migrated to the Spanish branch get a Spanish IBAN and, under the Spanish-version customer agreement, come under IRPF taxation and reporting obligations. The agreement does not state which income types are withheld.

Portugal: the Portuguese-version agreement says Trade Republic may provide local tax reporting through a service provider, free and without obligation. Portuguese sources disagree on whether interest is taxed at source, and no Trade Republic document settles it.

Everywhere else: expect to handle declarations yourself. A year-end report is not a filed tax return. Under the German customer agreement, Trade Republic is not responsible for tax on crypto sale proceeds.

For country-specific investment tax rules, see the QuantRoutine tax guides.

Who Trade Republic’s fee structure suits

  • Monthly savings plans into ETFs: €0 per execution between €10 and €10,000.
  • Larger one-off purchases, where a flat €1 undercuts percentage or minimum-fee pricing.
  • Card users who also run savings plans of at least €50 a month, the condition for Saveback under the German customer agreement.
  • Investors who want to compare order books and pay €2 to pick an exchange when it quotes better.
Less suited for
  • Investors who want a published FX rate on non-euro purchases.
  • Investors who want every trade executed on an exchange: Best Price trades are concluded against Trade Republic, and only Direct Price picks the exchange.

Frequently asked questions

What is Trade Republic’s trading fee?

Order commission is €0. Each trade carries a €1 settlement fee under Best Price, the default, charged once per trading day even if the order fills in several parts. Choosing the exchange yourself with Direct Price costs €2 per trade. Savings plan executions are free.

Does Trade Republic charge a spread on top of the €1 fee?

It can. Trade Republic publishes no spread figure; its pricing summary says spread and third-party costs may apply. On Best Price, the trade is concluded against Trade Republic, which prices from reference markets at no worse than market prices. The aggregated order book and single-exchange order books are free in the app, so you can compare prices before you trade.

Are savings plans free on Trade Republic?

Yes. Executions carry no fee on ETFs, stocks, ELTIFs and crypto, for €10 to €10,000 per execution. Orders are pooled with other customers’ orders, and where an instrument is bought in several parts, everyone is settled at one average price. Crypto plans are only available in the 11 countries where Trade Republic offers crypto.

Does Trade Republic support limit orders?

Yes. Limit orders can run for one day or for the whole year, but fractional trading is not available on limit orders. Direct Price supports market, limit and stop orders. Crypto trades are market orders only.

Does Trade Republic still use payment for order flow (PFOF)?

Payment for order flow is banned in the EU, and EU rules allowed member states to exempt brokers from the ban only until 30 June 2026. On 2 July 2026 Trade Republic launched Best Price (€1, executed against Trade Republic at the best price across relevant exchanges) and Direct Price (€2, you choose from 30 exchanges). Its customer agreement still lets it receive and keep third-party payments for executing orders, which it discloses annually.

Does Trade Republic pay interest on uninvested cash?

Yes, after you activate it in the app. The rate is variable, differs by country and, according to Trade Republic, is oriented to the European Central Bank rate. The dated rates we read are in the cash section of this page. Balances blocked by open orders or pending card payments earn nothing. Cash above your partner amount sits in money market funds, which deposit guarantee does not cover.

How does Trade Republic handle foreign exchange?

Three ways. When you buy a non-euro asset, conversion is built into the price, with no separate line and no published size. Foreign dividends are converted at interbank rates plus a fixed margin per unit of currency (USD 0.0014, for example). Card payments and foreign ATM withdrawals cost €0 to convert.

What does it cost to transfer my portfolio out of Trade Republic?

Nothing on Trade Republic’s side. Its price list prices outgoing securities transfers at €0, though third-party costs may be added. ELTIFs cannot be transferred: a transfer request sells them and credits the proceeds.

Does Trade Republic handle taxes automatically?

It depends on your country. For German residents, Trade Republic withholds tax and you can set a Freistellungsauftrag of up to €1,000 in the app. Spanish customers migrated to the Spanish branch come under IRPF taxation and reporting obligations. The Portuguese-version agreement lets Trade Republic provide local tax reporting at its discretion. Elsewhere, you handle declarations yourself; the annual tax certificate is free.

What is Trade Republic’s Saveback feature?

Trade Republic advertises 1% back on eligible card spending, invested into a savings plan. Under the German customer agreement, the benefit is capped at €15 a month and requires bi-weekly or monthly savings plans totalling at least €50 a month. Cash withdrawals, transfers, gambling and investment spending are excluded.

Are Trade Republic ATM withdrawals free?

Withdrawals of €100 or more are free; withdrawals under €100 cost €1, including abroad, with no charge to convert foreign currency. The virtual card is free; the physical Classic card costs €5 and the Mirror card €50, both one-off.
